When Banks, Governments and Major Funds Buy Gold "Off Market"

Listen to episode 6 of “À l'Orée de l'Éco” (in French), our podcast presented by Tom Benoit:

Many banks, governments and large funds are buying gold on a massive scale via perfectly legal but off-market channels. This is a growing trend, mainly in the Middle East and Asia, which makes the measurement of gold's value more complex than it first appears.

The less sacralized private property is, the more skewed the storage of value becomes. Let's start from a simple principle: the more the years go by, the less official prices, whatever they may be, will reflect the reality of the markets. What is a market? A junction between a mass of supply and demand, which ultimately defines prices that no one should be able to deny.

As long as policies are reasonable, as long as companies make sense... markets keep pace. Conversely, parallel markets end up reflecting the authenticity of prices.

It would take too long to go into detail here on other paramet...

2025: When Business Goes Up And The Stock Market Goes Down?

Listen to episode 3 of our ‘À l'Orée de l'Éco’ podcast:

Why invest in a "World ET"’? Because logic would dictate that “the world”, when it happens to be whole, does not pose isolated risks. Except that investing in the MSCI World means betting on 1,400 of the largest companies in mainly Western countries, geographically diversified in 23 countries and sectorally in 11 different areas of activity.

We are a long way from the "big picture" conceptual projection evoked by "the World".

The MCSI ACWI index already tracks more than twice as many stocks as the groups included in the MCSI World index. And this time we're talking about 50 countries, 23 developed and 27 emerging. I'd be curious to know, and above all, according to whom... We should rather speak of “new powers” and “declining countries”, as this would more accurately reflect the current situation of our century. Unfortunately, this would not be to our advan...

Is China Building an American-style Stock Market?

Listen to episode 2 of “À l'Orée de l'Éco”, our new podcast presented by Tom Benoit:

Today, I'd like to talk to you about China, and the recent surge in the markets. Last week, stock market activity in Shanghai and Hong Kong was so brisk that orders sometimes couldn't even be processed on time. Brokerage firms were overwhelmed. So what happened? What came out of it? Will and can the Chinese stock market become a true American-style stock market? Will Chinese real estate take off again? And luxury, too?

Over the past week, the CSI 300 index, which brings together three hundred of China's largest market capitalizations, has jumped 15.7%, a record not seen for at least fifteen years.

In Hong Kong, the forecast was just as exceptional. On Friday September 27, the Hang Seng closed up 3.55%. The flagship index of the Hong Kong stock exchange also posted its best weekly performance since 1998, up 13%. For several months, however, Chinese equi...

France's Deficit Under EU And Market Scrutiny

Listen to episode 1 of “À l'Orée de l'Éco”, our new podcast presented by Tom Benoit:

For the moment, the ECB isn't saying a word. One statement and the markets could start to seriously lose the confidence that, sooner or... later, they will no longer have in France.

Even Bruno Le Maire, who in recent months had been doing everything possible, sometimes at the expense of the credibility of his role, to appear infinitely reassuring, has for the past week been delivering a speech that seems to better reflect the actual state of French public finances.

According to the Minister for the Economy and Finance, there is a risk that the public deficit will slip to 5.6%, compared with the initial forecast of 5.1%. So the pressure is mounting, or rather, the disorder is spreading, more and more assumed, expressed, admitted... The cause: the point of no return has been reached, and those in charge have ‘resigned’... But all this is just information, at best,...
