Price Explanation

The Krugerrand 1/2 ounce is an iconic gold coin first minted by the South African Mint in 1980.

The reverse of the Krugerrand 1/2 ounce, originally designed by the renowned sculptor Coert Steynberg, depicts the Springbok (Antidorcas marsupialis), one of South Africa's national animals. Using modern techniques, the designers at the South African Mint have reintroduced details lost over the decades, producing a design with increased definition and artistic vibrancy. Improvements include the sharpness of the Aloe claviflora plants and the surrounding landscape. The slender, graceful Springbok antelope is surrounded by the words "KRUGERRAND" and "FYNGOUD 1/2 OZ FINE GOLD", with the year "2025" on either side of the animal.

The obverse features the effigy of Paul Kruger, first President of the Republic of South Africa, designed by Otto Schultz. The country's name is inscribed in two of the eleven official languages, Afrikaans and English: "SUID-AFRIKA" and "SOUTH AFRICA".

The South African Mint jointly manufactures the bullion Krugerrand with Rand Refinery. Synonymous with integrity and quality, Rand Refinery is the world's largest integrated precious metals refining and smelting complex. This Krugerrand is made from half an ounce of pure .9167 gold alloyed with copper, giving it a distinctive orange hue.

Thanks to its durable composition, iconic design and global liquidity, the Krugerrand 1/2 ounce 2025 is an investment that stands the test of time.
