The 1 oz silver Krugerrand was first introduced in 2017 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Krugerrand series. Its overwhelming success quickly transformed it from a special release into a permanent addition to the Krugerrand collection.
Thanks to cutting-edge computer-assisted engraving and laser-etching technology, the 2026 coin displays exceptional sharpness and refined detail. Unlike its gold counterpart, the silver Krugerrand carries a face value of 1 rand (“R1”), an appropriate value for the nation that introduced the bullion coin to the world for the purpose of making precious metals accessible to the common investor.
The reverse, originally designed by the renowned sculptor Coert Steynberg, depicts one of South Africa’s most iconic national animals — the springbok — surrounded by the inscriptions “KRUGERRAND” and “FYNSILVER 1 OZ FINE SILVER R1.” The year of mintage, “20” and “26,” appears on either side of the antelope.
The obverse features the classic bearded portrait of Paul Kruger, created more than a century ago by German die-cutter Otto Schultz, encircled by the country’s name in two of its eleven official languages: “SUID-AFRIKA” and “SOUTH AFRICA.”
The 2026 1 oz silver Krugerrand offers collectors and investors alike an affordable way to own a piece of the legendary Krugerrand heritage. Containing a full troy ounce of 99.9% pure silver, it represents both a meaningful collectible and a straightforward, reliable investment.
